Deathly Hallows=AWESOME!

Some quick thoughts (spoilers!) behind the cut:

Hands down, the best lines:

Neville to Voldemort:

I'll join you when hell freezes over. DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY!!!

Mrs. Weasley to Bellatrix Lestrange (before killing her!):

I've read the book twice already. It could be the best of the seven (though Prisoner of Azkaban will always be my favorite). It's a very satisfying conclusion, even if the epilogue is a bit fan-fiction like.

The great:

The big attack on Harry and company as they leave Privet Drive for the last time. Really exciting.

Harry learning more about Albus Dumbledore's life, and realizing the great wizard's flaws made him even greater.

The trio's search for the Horcruxes, and learning about the Deathy Hallows.

Snape was "good" all along, though he was motivated largely by his love for Harry's mother.

The Battle of Hogwarts- can't wait to see this on film.

NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM KICKS ASS!!!!!!!! He doesn't show up till the last third of the novel, but damn, he gets to be a huge hero. He's the character who has grown the most in seven books- from the almost Squib-like, clumsy child to the brave, confident young man at the end.

Harry sacrificing himself- even if it turns out only the bit of Voldemort in him died. His experience with the Resurrection Stone was a fascinating read.

It wasn't just Harry who got to defeat Voldemort- though he is the one to finally kill him- Ron, Hermione, and Neville get to destroy some of the Horcruxes.

The not so great-

There were a couple of dead spots during the search for the Horcruxes.

All the deaths. Some were upsetting, like Fred Weasley, Lupin and Tonks (who had just married and had a baby), and Dobby. Others of course, were expected, like Mad-Eye Moody early on. I wish Snape had been given a more heroic death. I can't believe Rowling even killed off Harry's owl, Hedwig!

That's all I can think of for now.

The nineteen years later epilogue was nice, if a little sugary. I think Rowling wanted to appease 'shippers- Harry and Ginny marry, as do Ron and Hermione. And Neville becomes the Herbology Professor at Hogwarts- something fans were sure would happen from the first book! I wish he and Luna had gotten together, though.

I can't believe it's over!
