Choir rant.

Don't think I really need to say how tonight's rehearsal went. Director started us late (his fault) and kept us very late. And we didn't get a thing done...nothing worth getting done, anyway. I'm almost praying that the winter storm we're getting this weekend will be bad enough to cancel the carol service. Almost. That wouldn't be fair to my sister or her kids' choirs and bells- they've worked hard and sound good. But the adult choir is not doing well at all.

Aww, I'd come join your choir and help out if I could.

What's so bad? Are you singing difficult stuff and people just aren't getting it? Or are they just kind of lazy singers? Or are they trying their hardest and just need more time to practice? What about you, are you doing ok in the choir?

I don't have a great voice, and not the best sight-singing skills (though not hopeless at it) but I've always had a good ear and been really fast to memorize music, so I'd be able to look up more frequently and follow the director. It always frustrated me so much when people would be glued to their music and not able to pay attention to the director. But then, I'm sure they might get frustrated with my lesser voice and sight-singing skills (if they noticed). Still, sometimes I wished I could be the director.

Oh, but the thing about Christmas carol services is that the audience/congregation will be in such a cheerful mood of YAY CHRISTMAS, YAY CAROLS! that they'll overlook most errors.

There are a couple of singers who really can't sing- but it's mostly the director not telling us what he wants that's the problem. We work hard, but his direction is VERY hard to follow. :(

As for me, I learn my music fast, and rarely forget it. It's frustrating to know the music and still have the director stop us every few phrases.
