Butterfly in the sky...

Reading Rainbow is going off the air after 26 years of encouraging kids to like reading, rather than just having to read. Now the reading shows on T.V. are going to focus on how. There are schools for that. Kids need to WANT to read.

This truly, truly sucks. I honestly thought it would go on until LeVar Burton kicked the bucket (hopefully not for a few more decades!).

This library volunteer/ex-library clerk/daughter of a librarian is very sad and disappointed today.

It was the third longest running PBS kids' show...after Sesame Street and Mister Rogers. Wow.

Thanks, LeVar. You made a lot of kids want to read.

This is, indeed, sad news.

How are children who don't have bookie parents going to learn the joy of reading? School can't do it...school equates work in so many minds...

Oh man, that IS a shame! But then, it's not surprising, considering the shows that have come on recently. Hopefully, they'll continue to air the episodes, as they do here, all the way back to the beginning.

Time to start making some recordings...

Woahh, that's really sad :( Reading Rainbow was my favorite show when I was a kid; it's probably what turned me into such a book nerd.

Politicians trying to close public libraries, PBS taking Reading Rainbow off the air ... What is wrong with people today?

We as a nation have our collective heads up our collective asses regarding our priorities, so none of this surprises me.
