We should have sung "People Look East" (tune-Besançon ). Years ago, we would sing one verse of it each week. This week should have started with:
People look East, the time is near
Of the Crowning of the year.
Make yourself fair as you are able,
trim the hearth and set the table.
People look East, begin today
Love, the Guest, is on the way.
For some reason, the Methodist hymnal is missing a verse...
No annual Carol Service freak-out from me this year, by the way. Our music is simple, we know most of it pretty well, and there's not a lot of it. We're singing an unusual but lovely arrangement of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel"; plus "Rise up, Shepherd, and Follow", and the bells are ringing a gorgeous version of "The First Noel". I'm looking forward to the service this year!
