Oh, dear God.

I just got back from the Ash Wednesday service from Hell. I'm not kidding. We had to share the music segments with the Praise Team. The group with a leader who: 1. Can't sing. 2. Can barely play the guitar. 3. Has no concept of making music sound, well, like music. 4. Thinks he can write music (it's crap). And finally: 5. Who once threatened our choir director. (long story)

We did two wonderful sung prayers from the Taizé Community (a French ecumenical Christian order). They are fairly simple tunes, and there should have been no problems with them. The Praise Team butchered them. The leader in particular was off-key, way off the beat, and very loud.

It was horrible. It's bad enough that his group didn't know the music (despite two rehearsals) and sounded bad, making us sound bad in the process. Oh, no. We had to sing one of his brand new songs. He didn't give us any music- just a page with the words and guitar chords. We had to learn by ear, which was pointless because HE KEPT CHANGING THE TUNE while singing!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of contemporary Christian music, even rock. But this guy's music is utter crap and shouldn't be played ANYWHERE.

My biggest problem is that Ash Wednesday is supposed to be a solemn occasion. Not a rock concert or nightclub party.

Our choir had some really nice music on our own, and we did it well. I hope God appreciates us. :p ;)

Ugh. That's really cringeworthy.
