Interesting family history...

I’ve been looking forward to the Wolf Hall miniseries that airs on PBS in April (already airing in the UK). I haven’t read the books„ but I’ve always been interested in Tudor history. My mother has been doing some genealogy research about my dad’s side of the family, and she’s traced it back to that era. One of my ancestors was Richard Rich (spelled Riche in the novel). He was one of the most evil men of the Tudor era! Yikes!

From the article:

Since the mid-sixteenth century Rich has had a highly negative reputation for immorality, financial dishonesty, double dealing, perjury and treachery that is seldom matched in all of English history. The historian Hugh Trevor-Roper dismissed Rich as a man “of whom nobody has ever spoken a good word”.

As a side note, in Wolf Hall, Rich is played by Bryan Dick. So Bryan is playing my great-great-something grandpa. :p

Hmmm, it's been a while since I used the Bryan as Blythe icon.

Oh, I've read about him. He was NOT nice.

No famous people for me, alas. But I've a few English lines that I've not got back to England yet.

My mom also found out that both sides of our family participated in the Salem Witch Trials. Both accusers and victims!

Mom's been so busy with this stuff lately. She got Dad one of those "test your DNA" kits, and it came back with so much interesting stuff. And the ancestry.com results have been cool- there was some stuff I knew (my great-something uncle was Jefferson Davis) and some stuff I didn't- one family name was changed so much that we thought we were Irish when we were solidly German all along!
