Chemo vs Cancer: Round One

Yesterday I spent almost six hours in an outpatient infusion center. The first hour was checking in, and getting my port set up. I was given infusions of Benadryl and mild steroids before the main event. Three hours of a Taxol infusion. The Benadryl made me sleepy so I got a nice nap. Then there was an hour of Carboplatin, a saline flush for my port, and then I was done. I felt well enough to shop at Dillard's and have dinner before going home. I had a good night's sleep. So far, no nausea, only mild aches, tiredness, a little shaking. My hair won't start falling out for a few weeks, probably just before or after my second round.

And so it begins. I brought Hello Kitty for moral support.

I barely felt the port.
The port. I didn't even feel it go in. #chemotherapy

The Taxol.
The Taxol is half gone! #chemotherapy

My shopping haul, or "congrats on getting through round one": A Betsey Johnson set and Deborah Lippmann nail polish.
My "congratulations on getting through your first round of chemo" presents from Mom and Dad. Deborah Lippmann polish in "Stargasm" (love the name!) and a Betsey Johnson (of course) jewelry set. #chemo #betseyjohnson #deborahlippmann

Round Two is May 30. My bald American Girl mini-me will be ordered Friday but I won't have her until Round Three.
