The space shuttle Challenger exploded. I can't believe it's been that long. I'll always remember exactly where I was and what I was doing- I was a freshman at Broomfield High School in Colorado. Band was my first class that day. It was almost the end of practice when the news came over the intercom. A T.V. showing CNN was left outside the library so students could see updates. It was a grim day.

The disaster was a major part of Courtney's first book, so I re-created that scene. I used McKenna as Courtney's friend Sarah. The reactions of the kids and their teacher were exactly what it was like that day.

I'll do a more cheerful photo set with Courtney and McKenna/Sarah later.

Meanwhile, Katie is down to one chemo session! Her last one will be next week. Then it's five weeks of radiation therapy. She and our parents are both qualified to get the COVID-19 vaccine now, and will get it as soon as the next shipment comes in. I have to wait a little longer. I'm so tired of social distancing. But I'll do it until enough people are vaccinated.
